Files for Friday Nights: Kingdom Series
Below are the teaching outlines and slides for Friday nights in the Kingdom series. Each week, it is our goal to have the notes and slides uploaded by Thursday night. A couple of notes on the outlines:
A “Q” with a subscript identifies a set of discussion questions. Most nights will have three sets (Q1, Q2, Q3).
“V-Note” identifies a note for volunteers to consider when leading that portion of the discussion.

For a more detailed look at the term “treasured possession” (segullah) in Exod 19:5, see this excerpt from Gentry and Wellum’s God’s Kingdom through God’s Covenants. It draws on Ancient Near Eastern parallels and biblical evidence to show that this term is a restoration of the Adamic role of king/priest/son—an important development in the unfolding of the Kingdom of God.
September 6, 2024—Regency and Rebellion (Gen 1:26–31a; Ps 8:3–9; Gen 6:5; 3:1–19)
We will discuss “the knowledge of good and evil” this evening. I will teach the view that this phrase means to claim moral autonomy—to claim the authority to decide for oneself what is good and evil. For those who would like a detailed look at the biblical data behind this position, you can read this article by W. Malcolm Clark. Although he bases much of his discussion on the documentary hypothesis, his collection and analysis of the biblical usage of the “knowledge of good and evil” is thorough.
